With many years of experience in applying ISO/TS16949 standard, it is a solid and favorable foundation for PPV to implement the transition to IATF16949:2016 version.

  • Introduction to the IATF16949 standard

➤ IATF stands for International Automotive Task Force.

You can understand that  IATF16949 is a “quality management standard for the automotive industry” – first issued on October 1, 2016. The predecessor of  IATF16949 is the standard ISO/TS16949. The first version of  ISO/TS 16949  was issued in 1999 by the IATF organization with the aim of harmonizing the various assessment and certification systems worldwide in the supply chain for the automotive industry.

➤ The purpose of the international standard IATF16949:2016 is to develop a Quality Management System that:

– Helping businesses to continuously improve
– Emphasis on error prevention, defect prevention
– Meet the specific requirements of the automotive industry and apply the tools of the automotive industry.
– Reduce variability in product quality, reduce process variability and reduce waste throughout the automotive supply chain.

In order to apply IATF16949:2016, in addition to meeting the requirements stated in the IATF16949:2016 standard, enterprises must regularly apply 5 core tools of the automotive component manufacturing industry (5 Core tools) are: :

– FMEA ( Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) – Analyze potential failure patterns and the impact of potential failure modes.
– SPC (Statistical Process Control) –“Statistical Process Control”.
– MSA (Measurement System Analysis) – “Measurement system analysis”.
– APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) – “Pre-planning for product quality”.
– PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) – “Production approval process”.

➤ Main change of IATF16949

– The process approach based on risk analysis is covered throughout the standard
– Additional product safety requirements
– Requires product management to install software in multiple terms
– Concretize requirements on capacity of internal auditors and 2nd party auditors.
– Concretize supplier selection criteria
– Add specific requirements on identification and traceability
– Additional regulations must have a warranty management process if there is a demand from customers.
– Document the application of the principle of “error-proofing”
